My mission is to invite the creative process into a structured literacy approach in order to provide expert dyslexia help and reading help for all struggling readers. As a member of the International Literacy Association and the International Dyslexia Association, I believe in the importance of supporting the unique learning style of each student using best practices in the field. While keeping the science of reading as the foundation of my lesson design, I carefully select reading content for my students based on their interests and abilities in order to foster the joy of reading! No two lessons are alike, as each program is specially created according to the unique goals and interests of my students. I also offer online reading programs for students with dyslexia so that busy schedules won't stop you from achieving success!
"Jamie helped me with my college essays, and I was accepted into my choice school- University of Hawaii at Manoa (where I studied Biology and graduated 2019)."
"Jamie has been extremely helpful with my abstract for my research paper. She has given me very useful suggestions and helped explain points to me that I was having trouble understanding. Definitely recommend!"
"Jamie helped my daughter, Sammy from 1st-5th grade. She is dyslexic and could barely read in 1st grade. Jamie helped Sammy read and become a confident reader when her teachers couldn't. I highly recommend her."
"I have had a great experience with Jamie. She has helped my son grow not only academically but also in confidence. I am so pleased, because she is not only patient but well-versed in many effective teaching techniques. Along with this, she is a great resource for future college selections."
"Jamie was such a great help with our son who has learning disabilities. He had a love for cooking since he was about 13 years old. Jamie explained the process of entering college. She helped guide him through the entrance letter and essays in order to enter college. I believe Jamie helped him have faith in himself and encouraged him to work hard. When he had questions, he could always contact Jamie, and she would guide him along. He graduated this Spring from Kendall College in Chicago with an Associates Degree in Culinary Arts. Thank you so much, Jamie!"
"She is literally the sweetest person ever! I have never felt so confident and happy with my college application! I got accepted into three wonderful schools with scholarships/honors programs! I chose Redlands University, which awarded me a $28K yearly scholarship! She showed me how to look at each college to find out what they're really looking for and not just some BS response. She has laid out charts and example sentences to help me be organized with applying to schools. Jamie has been a major part in my life this past semester. Not only does she talk about the importance of college, she also will make sure that there is a great and comfortable connection between herself and the client. Again, I cannot stress enough how amazing she is!! If you're hesitant, don't be! She's one of a kind, and she has not only helped me, but my entire family to get where we gotta go! Thank you, Jamie!"
"We cannot say enough good things about Jamie! She truly is AMAZING! We found Jamie at the beginning of the summer. Our daughter was diagnosed with a visual processing disorder in the 1st grade. She was still struggling with reading at the end of 2nd grade. She was at a pre-primer reading level. In two and a half months she jumped to an end of 1st grade-beginning 2nd grade reading level. Jamie, is kind and super patient. She is encouraging and is passionate about what she does and loves the children she works with. She is highly qualified and knows what she is doing. Our daughter loves her. She has given our daughter a bigger sense of confidence. Our daughter hated reading and wouldn't even try before we saw Jamie. After working with Jamie, our daughter told us she actually likes to read now. Jamie has a way of making reading fun. We had tried many different programs and had nowhere near the success and improvement we have had with Jamie. We highly recommend her. She has truly been a gift and a blessing. She is worth every cent and much more. You will see results and won't regret it!"
"Jamie is INCREDIBLE! My daughter was pulled from her school at the end of Kindergarten and attended 1st grade out of state. We came back for 2nd grade, and she was so far behind in reading her private school suggested we hold her back a year. Jamie worked with my daughter the entire summer, and she started 2nd grade and had NO ISSUES with reading! I'm SO GRATEFUL we found Jamie! I HIGHLY recommend her...she is an angel- the BEST!"
"There is no better!!! My child was in 2nd grade and was struggling with reading and writing. She was at a school she loved, but was told she could not stay unless she could perform at a higher level. A friend told me their daughter was working with Jamie and was having great success. We were desperate, as we were not having success with one of the well known programs. Let me tell you what a perfect match this was! Jamie met our daughter who was hesitant about having a tutor, and Jamie made her feel totally at ease. Jamie evaluated my daughter and came up with a plan that would bring my daughter's skills up and build confidence to eventually become independent. Jamie's expertise allowed us to quickly transition so my daughter could be more independent and soon was just working with Jamie a few hours a week. We worked with Jamie all through lower school, and my daughter has transitioned beautifully to middle school. She is confident, independent, and knows when to advocate for herself for additional help. Even though we don't work with Jamie any longer, she has stayed in our lives. She checks on the progress of all my daughters and cheers them on with their endeavors. Jamie has a heart of gold, and if you are looking for a passionate, caring, and competent individual, please reach out to Jamie. You will be glad you did."
"We found Jamie through the International Dyslexia Association in our search for help with our teenage son with dyslexia. We came to Jamie to have him tested and assess his abilities. When you speak with her, her expertise, comprehension, and kindness is so obvious. She has the gift of connecting in a very warm and genial way, which is so essential working with young people. She is very patient and took time to discuss and answer all our questions. Jamie was also instrumental in helping us locate the right psychologist to administer a full battery test to thoroughly diagnose our son's dyslexia. We really appreciate the help and guidance she has given to us. Thank you, Jamie!"
"Jamie has been amazing with my kids. I highly recommend her. My 6 year old daughter was unable to read. Due to Covid, the school was shut down. Jamie came to our rescue, and Juliet will be fully prepared for 1st grade when school starts. She also is working with my 8 year old son. He was very frustrated with distant learning and lost his joy for school and reading. Jamie stepped in and recommended books that he would be interested in. She helped with his reading comprehension also. She was able to engage with him and reignite his spark to love learning."
We wanted to get our daughter off on the right path into reading and writing, before bad habits could be developed. We were so happy to know Jamie. Jamie is an incredible teacher, from the start being so welcoming - our daughter warmed up immediately and was always incredibly excited to go to “reading class.” Jamie is so knowledgeable, utilizes fantastic resources, and knew exactly how to keep my daughter engaged. She helped bring an excitement into the idea of learning to read that my daughter just didn’t have at home with us. We are so thankful for Jamie, and she is at the top of my list to recommend for anyone needing guidance or assistance in these areas.
Jamie's advice and guidance in the college admission process was extremely helpful. She has not only an extensive knowledge in the field, but she believed in me from the beginning. The support of others and the belief in your abilities is just as important as anything else in your admission process, and Jamie is a perfect example of that. In just one conversation, she was able to pick up on my passion and my call to serve others; she believed in me as a writer and encouraged me to shine and dream big. Here’s to the next big thing! Thank you Jamie!
"Jamie surfs. She's active and cool. I feel like she understands my situation with school and sports and is in full support of me. She even comes to my surf competitions! We have spent lots of hours with reading, writing, and doing projects. Her support has been necessary for my success in school."
"Jamie Heraver was very knowledgeable in the literacy field, and I felt she had such a heart for helping the kids."
